The Bob Newhart Connection

For nearly a decade Bob Newhart entertained audiences with his hit TV show, Newhart. In the show, Bob and his wife decide to leave their hectic life in New York City and buy a beautiful inn in Vermont. To our delight, Hollywood came knocking at the Waybury Inn’s door. They thought that the Inn captured the essence of the Vermont experience and wanted to depict us as Bob’s own Stratford Inn.

A large two-story guesthouse or inn with a porch surrounded by trees and a white picket fence. The porch has a yellow umbrella, potted plants, and outdoor furniture. A sign on the left reads "Waybury Inn".

The four individuals are smiling, with one sitting in the front, two standing behind, and one leaning over the person in front. The show is labeled as 'The Complete Second Season' at the top.

The Real Life Stratford Inn

For years, members of the cast and crew have dropped by to see how their beloved Inn is doing. Bob even sent our Inn’s former owner, Tracey, some words of encouragement, as pictured below. The photo reads, “To Tracey, take care of my Inn!”

If you’re planning a visit to the Middlebury area, we invite you to stay at the “real life” Stratford Inn. Be sure to stop in and check out some props from the Newhart show: the Minute Man Café sign and the Stratford Inn sign are located inside the Inn
